I’ll start with this: I love Spain. It’s one of those places I go back to over and over because it just works. The energy, the food, the pace of life. It’s social without being overwhelming, beautiful without feeling overproduced, and consistently delivers.
Mallorca is a perfect extension of that.
It’s part of Spain’s Balearic Islands, along with Ibiza, Formentera, and Menorca, and honestly rivals anything you’ll find in the Adriatic or Aegean. Mallorca quietly holds its own and, in some ways, does it better. The water is just as clear, the landscapes are more varied, and the overall experience feels more grounded and less chaotic. It’s also less of a “scene” compared to places like Mykonos or Cannes.
I’ve been twice now, and it’s the perfect destination for any occasion: couples trip, girls trip, families…you name it! You get beach clubs, boat days, great dinners, and just enough going on without it turning into a full production.
The water is incredible, the people are genuinely nice, and the food is consistently good. If anything, it surprised me by rivaling Greece in a lot of ways. Less overrun, more relaxed, and easier to navigate without sacrificing any of the highlights.
Logistically, it’s also simple. You can fly directly into Palma de Mallorca from most major European cities, and there are plenty of routes from the U.S. with one stop. It’s also an easy add-on if you’re already visiting Spain. Madrid or Barcelona to Mallorca is a quick, easy flight and very worth it.
When to Go to Mallorca + How Long to Stay
Best time to visit Mallorca
June and September are ideal. The weather is warm, the water is swimmable, and it’s noticeably less crowded than peak season. July and August are fun, but busier and more expensive.
How long to stay in Mallorca
5 to 7 days is the sweet spot. You’ll have enough time to explore different parts of the island, do a boat day, visit a few towns, and still have downtime. Anything shorter can feel rushed.
Do you need a car in Mallorca?
Yes, rent a car. Mallorca is bigger than people expect, and the best beaches, towns, and restaurants are spread out. Having a car makes the trip significantly easier and more enjoyable (trust me, I’ve been stranded on a cliffside waiting for a Taxi for over an hour).
The Main Areas to Visit in Mallorca
One of the reasons Mallorca works so well is the variety. Each area has a different feel.
Palma de Mallorca
This is where you’ll fly in, but it’s not just a pass-through. Palma is worth at least half a day, ideally more. The old town is walkable and full of restaurants, shops, and cafés. The Cathedral of Santa Maria (La Seu) is genuinely impressive and worth seeing. It’s a great mix of culture and casual exploring.
Deià
Small, scenic, and a bit more elevated. This is where you go for views, a slower pace, and one of your nicer meals. It feels tucked into the mountains but still accessible.
Sóller + Port de Sóller
One of the most beautiful areas on the island. Mountains meet the sea, and everything feels slightly more relaxed. Perfect for a day trip or even an overnight stay.
Port d’Andratx
A great base for a boat day. It’s quieter but still polished, with good restaurants and an easy, low-key feel. You’ll also see some large villas along the cliffs.

Boat days are always at the top of my list. If you do one thing in Mallorca, make it this. Rent a boat or hire a skipper and spend the day along the coast. You’ll swim in clear water, stop in hidden coves, and quickly understand why people keep coming back.
Visit a Beach Club (Gran Folies)
Set aside a full day for this. Book a bed, order lunch, and stay awhile. I did a lot of research on which beach club to visit and landed on Beach Club Gran Folies. It’s a beautiful setting with great energy and good food. Not to mention the rosé goes down a little too easily.
Go Wine Tasting in Mallorca
Mallorca has a strong wine scene that people don’t always expect. Head inland for a vineyard experience. It’s a slower, more relaxed way to spend an afternoon. Finca Serena is a great place to do this.
Spend Time in Palma
Some people say Palma isn’t worth staying in. I strongly disagree. It’s a stunning, vibrant city. Walk the old town, stop for coffee or wine, shop ‘till you drop, and explore at your own pace. It’s a great balance to the beach days.

The ultimate WOW factor. A former fortress turned luxury hotel. Very private, very quiet, and one of the most unique properties on the island (and probably the world). If you don’t stay here, come for drinks or dinner, but you need a reservation to be let on the property.

The crown jewel of Mallorca. Located in Deià with incredible views and a classic, romantic feel.
Finca Serena
One of my favorite hotels I’ve stayed at. A countryside hotel focused on calm, space, and beautiful design. Large rooms, great spa, and excellent breakfast. It does get warm since it’s inland, but it’s perfect for disconnecting. I genuinely felt like I was on a true vacation here, not just “travelling”.
Jumeirah Mallorca
Stay here if you want to feel like a celebrity. A cliffside resort with expansive views and full amenities. Feels polished and easy. Also, a great lunch spot even if you’re not staying there.
Nobis Hotel Palma
A boutique hotel in the center of Palma. Clean design, great location, and ideal for being in the middle of everything.
Concepció by Nobis Palma
Similar to Nobis but slightly more budget-friendly compared to the other hotels on this list. Stylish, comfortable, with a small pool. A good option if you want to save a little in Palma and splurge elsewhere.
Hotel Es Port
Located near Sóller. More traditional with beautiful grounds and a great pool. Walkable to the water and full of charm.

Great casual tapas spots with a lively atmosphere. Book in advance. Pan con tomate and gambas al ajillo? Yes please!

My GOD. Sea Club felt like IYKYK… incredible setting, great seafood, and a good wine list. Perfect for a sunset dinner… even better for amazing lighting, LOL. Reserve ahead.

One of the most famous restaurants in Mallorca for a reason. Lunch only, right on the water, simple seafood, amazing views. Plan ahead.
El Olivo (La Residencia)
If you’ve seen reels about Mallorca, chances are El Olivo has been in them. A more formal dinner, but worth it for the picturesque setting. Ideal for a special night.
Bar Abaco (Palma)
A fun stop for drinks in Palma. Slightly over-the-top in a good way.
Final Thoughts
Mallorca is one of those destinations that doesn’t require overthinking…book it. It has everything you want in a summer trip, but feels more balanced and less chaotic than some of the usual options.
It works for a couples trip, a wedding weekend, a girls trip, or even a family vacation without needing to completely change your approach. You get clear water, great food, and a mix of energy and calm that’s nearly impossible to beat.
The key is to keep it simple. Rent a car, make a few key reservations, and leave room to explore. You won’t be disappointed.
